Blogging Do's and Don'ts

Do’s

  • Do your research and make sure you understand what you're writing about. Have a point of view, don't just relay information.
  • Be ethical and always reference your sources.
  • Acknowledge if you have made a mistake and correct it quickly. Always be transparent.
  • Pay attention to what other people are saying about the issue and feel free to link to outside sources to support your point of view.
  • Use a disclaimer and be clear that your opinions are your own and not representative of the views and opinions of PROJECT FUTURES.
  • Refer anything PROJECT FUTURES related to us. If someone contacts you with a PROJECT FUTURES question or wanting a comment, please refer them to us.
  • Always proof your work and don't just rely on spell check. We won't always have time to proof your blog posts.
  • Source an image to accompany your blog post and make sure you have the right to use it. If you can't find an image, send us one of you.
  • Respond to people who comment on your blog post. Remember we want to encourage two way dialogue. Thank people for taking the time to respond, whether you agree with them or not.
  • Be yourself and have fun! Write as if you are telling a friend not writing a PhD thesis.

Don’ts

  • Don't treat the PROJECT FUTURES blog as your personal or social blog. Keep on track and stay focused on the issue.
  • Don't hide behind the blog. Only say things you would be willing to defend in person.
  • Don't make assumptions or lay the blame. Again, do your research and make sure you can support your opinions.
  • Don't get personal.
  • Don't disclose any confidential information or announcements you may be privy to through your involvement in PROJECT FUTURES. Please leave the official announcements up to us. We'll let you know when you can start writing and promoting certain events and campaigns.
  • Don't swear! Unless you absolutely have to. We understand sometimes only a good $^&% will do the job, but challenge yourself as a writer to find a way to convey your message and passion in another way. - Never use vulgar or offensive language.
